In C57BL/6 mice exposed to 25 Schistosoma mansoni cercariae the capacity to bind cercarial antigen in terms of rosette-forming cells (RFC) was maximal sequentially in the mediastinal (week 1), hepatic (week 5) and mesenteric nodes (weeks 7-9), apparently recapitulating the migration of the parasite. The spleen showed a predominant T-cell RFC response in week 4 but by week 11 it was predomonantly B-cell and was mainly IgM in nature. The different lymph nodes had different proportions of IgG, IgA and IgE bearing cells but there was a common progression from B-cell RFC to rosette antibody-forming cells and then to plaque-forming cells.
