Maximising tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa Linn.) multiplication by using bulb segments



Progressive Horticulture 12(2): 71-77



Bulbs ranging in diameter from 0.5 to 3.0 cm were divided into 6 grades. Bulbs in each grade were cut in half longitudinally with the intact bulbs serving as controls. Only the segments from large diameter bulbs (>2 cm) regenerated well. Compared with intact bulbs the number of bulbs produced per segment was greater than half but the number of bulblets was less than half. Flowering in bulb segments was delayed by 44 days compared with intact bulbs.
