Abstract
For 116 progeny with Dorset Horn, Ile-de-France, Shropshire, Southdown, Suffolk and Polish Merino sires and Polish Merino dams, birth weight averaged 4.2, 4.7, 4.7, 4.6, 5.5 and 4.5 kg resp. Daily gain up to 40 kg body weight averaged 269, 250, 261, 236, 285 and 256 g resp., the Suffolk crossbreds having a significantly higher birth weight and weight gain than the other types. The carcasses of Southdown crossbreds had a significantly greater fat thickness over the loin eye than those of the other types.
