Metabolism of the herbicide buthidazole in corn seedlings and alfalfa plants

Metabolism of the herbicide buthidazole in corn seedlings and alfalfa plants

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry 28(6): 1090-1095

Buthidazole was absorbed from nutrient solution and translocated by maize seedlings. Most of the radiocarbon in the seedlings could be extracted by ethanol. Unextracted radiocarbon gradually increased to approx equal to 19% at day 25; however, acid hydrolysis released almost all of the conjugated metabolites in solids. Buthidazole was slowly but steadily metabolized. Unchanged buthidazole constituted 96% of the total radiocarbon at day 1, decreasing to 62% at day 25.
