Minimal feeding of pregnant ewes

Minimal feeding of pregnant ewes

Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production 39: 242-250

Groups of Coopworth ewes diagnosed as bearing twins at 90 days of gestation were killed at day 95 or given 1 of 5 feeding levels, which ranged from 1-5X non-pregnant maintenance until slaughter at approx. day 140. Various parameters were compared with feeding level. Mean mammary wt., which was 0.31 kg for the initial slaughter group, increased significantly with feeding level from 1.18 to 2.25 kg.
