Morphology and essential oil in the taxonomy of Ocimum nudicaule Benth. (Labiatae)

Ciencia e Cultura 32(Suplemento): 65-70

On the basis of a study of material collected in Itapetininga, Sao Paulo state, in 1975, a new variety O. nudicaule var. anisifolia, is described, to include plants with long calyxes, short racemes, large seeds and striate seed surfaces and containing methylchavicol in their leaves, thus producing the characteristic odour, while plants without methylchavicol, and with smaller seeds with rugous surfaces, are placed in O. nudicaule var. nudicaule.
