New perspectives for the control of the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff.) with Dimilin

Field trials were carried out in Athens, Greece, in 1979 to determine the effectiveness of diflubenzuron (Dimilin) against the pine pest Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Denis & Schiff.). When applied as a spray from the ground at 0.02% against larvae at the end of the 5th instar, the compound caused 100% mortality; some of the larvae were able to spin cocoons, but none developed into pupae.
