Note on wood-plastic composite by ionizing radiation. I. Some mechanical and physical properties and flame-retardancy of wood-polyvinylidene chloride composite

Physical and mechanical properties were tested for specimens of buna (Fagus crenata) and akamatsu (Pinus densiflora) impregnated with vinylidene chloride monomer and exposed to a 60Co source under dry and wet conditions. Relative density, surface hardness and dynamic bending strength were increased by an increase in polymer loading. Polymerization by radiation had a negligible effect on bending strength, MOE and internal friction.
