In the Oslo Study, a 5-year trial, 1232 men were allocated at random to intervention and control groups. Only diet and hygiene advice was used as intervention to show if that could decrease the incidence of first acute myocardial infarction including sudden death (AMI); 19 cases occurred in the intervention group and 36 among controls during 6 to 7.5 years of follow-up.
