Parturition induction in sows and cows using PGF2 alpha , and the ensuing fertility of treated sows, and sows born during induced farrowings

Parturition induction in sows and cows using PGF2 alpha , and the ensuing fertility of treated sows, and sows born during induced farrowings

Veterinarstvi 32(4): 148-151

Sows maintained at 2 large commercial farms were each treated with 175 mu g cloprostenol in the morning of the 113th or 114th day of pregnancy. The percentage of sows that had farrowed within 12, 12-36 and >36 h of treatment was 69, 24 and 7 resp. on the 1st farm, and 88, 5 and 8 on the 2nd farm. Parturition duration averaged 3.6 h, the percentage of farrowings occurring at night 30, and litter size 9.0.
