Information is given on methods used in the estimation of four plant factors important for the efficiency of nutrient uptake from soil, viz. Imax (mean maximum net influx of nutrient into the roots), Km (Michaelis-Menten constant for mean net influx of nutrient), cmin (minimum concentration in soil solution at which mean net influx into the roots appears to be zero) and L (root length).
