The binding sites for Axinella lectin (specific for D-galactose) on monkey erythrocytes containing schizonts of Plasmodium knowlesi were found to be reduced from approx equal to 11 x 106 sites on normal erythrocytes to approx equal to 8 x 106 sites on parasitized erythrocytes. There were only minor differences in the amounts of iodinatable external proteins.
