In studies with lucerne Ramsey Saranac and Deseret, as growth day/night temp. increased the mean levels of total N, total soluble N and soluble nonprotein N increased in leaves, stems and total forage. The mean soluble protein N level in stems also increased with growing temp. However the apparent bloat potential of the plants as measured by soluble protein N release was greater at 26/18 deg C than at 34/26 or 18/10 deg.
