Rescue crops following failure of a crop treated with persistent soil-acting herbicides

Results are given of 3 trials in which, in all, 30 soil-acting herbicides were applied at varying periods before sowing potential rescue crops. Maize and Italian ryegrass were successful following failed winter wheat, treated with chlortoluron at 1.75 kg/ha pre-em.; after methabenzthiazuron at 2.5 kg/ha pre-em., spring wheat, sugar-beet, potatoes, peas and beans were safe; after neburon at 2.75 kg/ha pre-em. only potatoes and peas seemed safe.
