Research on Haplosporidium sp., a parasite of Ostrea edulis

Research on Haplosporidium sp., a parasite of Ostrea edulis

Revue des Travaux de l' Institut des Peches Maritimes 43(4): 405-408

Haplosporidian spores found in Ostrea edulis from Arcachon, France, were ovoid, 4.5 to 5.0 X 3.5 to 4.5 mu m, had an operculum and 2 filaments about 2O mu m long arising from opposite poles. Electron microscopy gave spore dimensions of 3.0 to 4.0 X 2.5 to 3.5 mu m. Spore dimensions and morphology, except for the presence of the filaments, showed a resemblance to Minchinia armoricana, also reported from O. edulis.
