Research on an acute mycotoxic episode in swine

Research on an acute mycotoxic episode in swine

Lucrari Stiintifice, Zootehnie Medicina Veterinara: 95-96

In a herd of some 1000 sows and 12 000 piglets, about 46% of the sows developed symptoms of poisoning, and 1% had to be slaughtered. Their piglets showed inappetence, loss of weight and vomiting, with morbidity of 25-50% and mortality up to 100% in affected litters. Fusarium T-2 toxin, zearalenone and ochratoxin were identified in the feed, and T-2 toxin in tissues. The rabbit skin test confirmed the presence of T-2 toxin in the feed. (Another paper, by G.
