Research, frequency, diagnosis, morphology, histopathology and ultrastructure of cardiac sarcosporidiosis in chamois and steinbock

Research, frequency, diagnosis, morphology, histopathology and ultrastructure of cardiac sarcosporidiosis in chamois and steinbock

Annali della Facolta di Medicina Veterinaria di Torino 27: 279-296

A study of sarcosporidia in the myocardium of animals in the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, Italy, revealed that 84% of 18 Capra ibex and over three-quarters of 198 Rupicapra rupicapra were infected. R. rupicapra were infected in the first year of life (57% of 37 less than one year old) and peak infection rates occurred in those 5 to 10 years old (92% of 94).
