Residual activity of dieldrin and chlordane in soil of established turf in Japanese beetle grub control

Residual activity of dieldrin and chlordane in soil of established turf in Japanese beetle grub control

Journal of Economic Entomology 74(4): 397-399

Chlordane at 4 rates from 1.1 to 9.0 kg a.i./ha and dieldrin at 4 rates from 0.6 to 3.4 kg a.i./ha were applied once, in 1968, to established turf in Kentucky and examined annually thereafter for populations of larvae of Popillia japonica Newm. Effective control was obtained for 5 seasons with chlordane at 4.5 kg/ha and with dieldrin at 0.6 kg/ha. Virtually 100% elimination of grubs was obtained for 8 seasons with 9.0 kg chlordane/ha and 2.2 kg dieldrin/ha.
