Residual effect of nitrogen fertilization on the suitability of tulip bulbs for forcing and reproduction

N fertilization (120 or 240 kg N/ha) applied in the first year during the production of tulip bulbs (cvs General Eisenhower and Sonia) had a beneficial effect on forcing and on bulb yield in the second year of cultivation. N deficiency in the non-fertilized control plots prolonged the duration of forcing and reduced flower longevity. The residual effect of N extended the growth period of plants in the second year.
