Methods are described whereby residues of carbaryl were determined on plant foliage and in stream water after the insecticide was applied in sprays to a forest of spruce and fir in Montana against Choristoneura occidentalis Freeman. The residues (in p.p.m.) on the foliage of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) average 138.3 1-2 h after spraying, and fell to 3.8 after 67 days. The corresponding residues on grass were 70.3 and 0, on Geranium were 167.1 and <0.1, and on aspen were 29.4 and 0.5.
