Residue and tillage effects on SCS runoff curve numbers

The effect of conservation tillage on reducing direct runoff ranges from slight to substantial. At present, the Soil Conservation Service procedures for estimating runoff do not consider the effects of conservation tillage and no-till practices on runoff. To improve runoff estimation for minimum and zero tillage practices, tillage and crop data were assembled from small watersheds and plots under natural and simulated rainfall from many locations.
