Residues of insecticides in rice crop

Residues of disulfoton and phorate, broadcast 1 wk after transplanting to control the early pest complex, were studied in soil, soil-water and plants. Residues of BHC, lindane, endosulfan, malathion, fenitrothion and chlorpyrifos applied at ear emergency time to control gundhi bug were studied in ear heads. Residues of disulfoton and phorate in soil under flooded conditions persisted for 60 days. The rate of dissipation followed a 1st-order reaction and the half lives were determined to be 12.5 and 12.7 days, respectively. The level of insecticides in soil-water was low, i.e., < 10 .mu.g/l. The residues persisted for 30 days only. The residues of disulfoton and phorate in plants increased up to day 30 and declined thereafter. No detectable residues of phorate, disulfoton or other insecticides, except lindane, sprayed to control gundhi bug were found in either grain or straw at harvest. Grain at harvest contained 0.15 ppm lindane.
