Residues of ionic surfactants in milk

900 milk samples collected during Feb.-Oct. from 3 Italian provinces (Parma, Reggio and Mantua) were tested for anionic surfactants by the method of Wildbrett et al. and for cationic surfactants by the method of G. V. Scott (Analytical Chemistry (1968) 40, 4). The highest content of anionic surfactants was 9-14 p.p.m., being found in 3.2% of samples from Parma in May and in 6.7% of samples from Reggio and 17.6% of samples from Mantua in July.
