Residues of tetracycline antibiotics in eggs laid by hens given medicated drinking water

Residues of tetracycline antibiotics in eggs laid by hens given medicated drinking water

Annual Report of the National Veterinary Assay Laboratory (18): 25-30

Laying hens were given drinking water containing 500 mu g/ml chlortetracycline (CTC), oxytetracycline (OTC), or tetracycline (TC) for one week, and antibiotic residues in their eggs were determined for 17 days after the first day of administration. Antibiotic concentrations were higher in the yolks, and accumulated throughout the experiment, but did not increase in the whites. TC levels were about three times those of CTC.
