Giardia lamblia cysts survived well in tap water at 4 and 24 deg C, but were killed at -20, 37 and 50 deg C. In faeces the cysts died within 4 weeks at 24 deg C. Concentrations of 1 to 10 mg Cl/l water decreased the viability of G. lamblia and G. muris cysts by 15 to 25%; at 100 mg/l all cysts were killed.
