Resistance of Himalayan small-leaved elm to Dutch elm disease

Resistance of Himalayan small-leaved elm to Dutch elm disease

Journal of Arboriculture 5(5): 110-112

Rooted cuttings of 3 clones of Ulmus villosa were potted and grown outdoors in Washington DC in 1976. During the winter of 1977-8 none showed cold damage. Two trees of each clone were transferred to a greenhouse in Dec. 1977 and inoculated with aggressive and nonaggressive strains of Ceratocystis ulmi in 1978. All clones were resistant to the nonaggressive strains. Two clones showed 10% and 50% wilt with the aggressive strains; the third was wilt-free.
