Resistance of maize plant introductions to sheath-collar feeding by 2nd-generation European corn borers

Resistance of maize plant introductions to sheath-collar feeding by 2nd-generation European corn borers

Maydica 25(1): 25-32

A total of 2518 maize plant introductions were evaluated in Iowa for resistance to sheath-collar feeding by second-generation larvae of Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.). Only 10 possessed a good degree of resistance. The original seed of 6 of 10 introductions resistant to the borer had been collected in either Central or South America and since these areas are thought to have been the centres of origin of maize, further searches there might be promising.
