Resistance of soil to horizontal displacement of the roots of carrot under the action of squeezing lifting tools

Resistance of soil to horizontal displacement of the roots of carrot under the action of squeezing lifting tools

Trudy VIM (80): 23-30

Converging lifting tools act on the carrot root by deforming the soil. The magnitude and the characteristics of the distribution of the soil pressure on the root depend on the design and kinematic parameters of the lifting tools, and on the type and condition of the soil at harvest time. During the lifting process the root is in a complex state of stress, with compression and shear forces, as well as forces displacing the root in the direction of travel of the harvester, acting upon the root.
