Resistance of varieties of Vigna unguiculata to attack by Liriomyza sativae (Diptera, Agromyzidae)

Liriomyza sativae Blanch. is causing heavy damage to crops of cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata) in the region of Petrolina, Pernambuco, Brazil, and some 50 varieties of cowpeas were tested there under furrow irrigation to determine varietal resistance to attack by this leaf-miner. The percentages of the leaf area damaged by L. sativae were determined on the basis of visual assessments made 65 days after germination.
