A system for describing pioneer plant communities of waste places and heaps around construction sites is presented. Eight types of pioneer community are characterized in detail. The main factor in determining the nature of a pioneer community is the initial presence of diaspores (fruits and seeds) of certain plants in the soil and/or their immigration from the surroundings.
