Rumen fermentation and function in steers fed molasses/urea and five different forages

In experiments relating composition and rumen degradation rate (RDR) of 5 forages to rumen fraction and nutrient flow to the duodenum, steers were fed sweet potato, cassava, Leucaena, banana or sugar cane forage at 0.5% (DM) of liveweight in a daily basal diet of molasses/urea + 300 g fish meal + 50 g salt/minerals. Protein and cell wall contents of all forages were negatively correlated (r2 = -0.72).
