Some factors affecting the phenotypic variation in milk yield in crossbred Holstein-Friesian X Cuban zebu cows

Data on 720 lactations of 311 cows in 4 herds were analysed. Sire of calf, parity and herd significantly affected milk yield (P < 0.005), as did season of calving (P < 0.01), but year of calving had no significant effect on milk yield. Parity accounted for 11.7%, sire of calf for 11.8%, and herd for 5.1% of the total variation in milk yield. Data on 720 lactations of 311 cows in 4 herds were analysed.
