In an area of high incidence of grass tetany on farms raising Wagyu cattle, K:Ca + Mg ratio was 3.10-4.91 compared with 4.13-5.82 where tetany did not occur. Where grass tetany was frequent herbage contained 3.65-5.30% total N, 0.73-1.07% P2O5, 3.70-6.20% K2O, 0.45-0.82% CaO and 0.08-0.25% MgO in DM compared with 4.40-5.10, 0.77-1.05, 5.40-6.40, 0.36-0.49 and 0.15-0.25%, resp. where tetany was infrequent. Soil characteristics were also investigated.
