In trials in 1977-8, quality of rice seedlings at transplanting was better in (a) Nihonbare than in (b) Kinpa. Maturity of (a) was later than in (b) and the difference increased with later transplanting. Variations in yield were greater in (a) which gave higher yields than (b) in favourable yr.
