In eight outbreaks of the condition, 33 weaned pigs were involved. They showed incoordination, circling, head cocked to one side, prostration with paddling movements of the limbs, fever, congestion of the cerebral blood vessels and an acute fibrinopurulent meningitis. A haemolytic Streptococcus was recovered from the brain, blood and synovial exudate (joints of the hind and fore limbs were involved in ten cases). This was classified with the group R of Moor (see VB 34, 454).
