Testing breeding material of sugarbeet for combining ability

The results are presented of a study of the combining ability of 12 monogerm diploid male-sterile lines and five multigerm tetraploid pollinators during 1975-76. The 60 hybrids obtained were evaluated for root yield, sugar content and yield, and content of soluble ash. High general combining ability was shown by the male-sterile lines MS6 and MS10 and the pollinators 5 and 4.
