In central Europe, the fox plays a major role in the spread of rabies. In a number of countries research is aimed at developing a method for the oral immunization of foxes with anti-rabies vaccine incorporated in bait. Such a vaccine should be harmless to other wildlife having access to it. The authors tested the safety of cloned Flury HEP virus for 15 species of wild mammals and ferrets--a total of 207 animals.
