The Federal Republic has the fewest big dairy farms

Between 1975 and 1979 the number of dairy cows in the EEC increased from 24 875 000 to 25 309 000 while the number of farms with dairy cows declined from 2 186 800 to 1 809 600. Av. herd size thus increased from 11.5 to 14 cows. In 1979 there were 3 890 600 cows in herds of 1-9 cows, 10 268 200 in herds of 10-29 cows, 6 571 200 in herds of 30-59 cows, and 4 579 300 in herds of more than or equal to 60 cows.
