The adequacy of speculation on the wheat, corn and soybean futures markets

The adequacy of speculation on the wheat, corn and soybean futures markets

Research in domestic and international agribusiness management: a research annual 2: 1981: 17-29

Using the maize, wheat, and soybean markets as examples, this paper examines changes in levels of speculation over the past 15 years. Absolute or even relative changes in speculation are not meaningful; rather, speculation must be measured in terms of the demands that commercial firms' positions place upon the market. In these terms, data presented show that there have been significant declines in speculation on the maize, wheat, and soybean futures markets.
