Most of the miracidia of a Chinese strain of Schistosoma japonicum penetrated the snails during the first 2 h of exposure. 10 miracidia/snail were enough to infect all the snails which were susceptible. The more miracidia employed, the lower the percentage which penetrated and the higher the mortality of the snails. The Chinese strain of S. japonicum infected 20% of O. hupensis hupensis but none of O. h. nosophora. The Philippine strain infected 10% of O. h. hupensis and 5% of O. h. nosophora.
