In a switchback trial with 6 wk periods 10 Simmental and Simmental X Red-and-White Holstein-Friesian cows ate a basal forage with hay:grass silage:maize silage 15:43:42 and were given concentrates (5-10 kg/day) at 1 kg/2.5 kg milk. Giving concentrates in 6 daily meals rather than 2 did not significantly affect daily forage DM intake, av. 11.4 kg, milk yield, 24 kg, milk fat 3.94-3.96% or milk protein 3.47-3.43%.
