In field trials in 1977-9, barley BG-25 was (a) unirrigated or was irrigated at (b) tillering, (c) at the boot stage or (d) at both stages with or without antitranspirant treatments (atrazine, kaolin, PMA or mixtures of these) applied at flower primordia initiation and at the boot stage. Irrigation increased leaf water potential and stomatal conductance, especially in (b) and (d).
