The effect of liming an Ultisol in Ghana on maize (Zea mays L.) yield and some soil properties

In field and greenhouse trials the effect of lime (as calcium hydroxide) on maize growth and soil properties of an ultisol in the forest region of Ghana was studied. Lime applications had no significant effect on grain yield in either the major or minor growing season, and at 4 t lime/ha the grain yields were depressed.
