Data were obtained on broilers caged in Broilermatic battery cages (8 per group) at densities of 11, 13, 15 and 17 birds per cage (409, 346, 300 and 265 cm2 per bird). The birds were fed dry mash to 21 days of age and pelleted feed from 21 to 49 days (diet 1), or dry mash throughout (diet 2).
