The effects of some African game animal sera in the BIIT in the Trypanosoma (Trypanozoon) brucei species trypanosomes

A modified version of the blood incubation infectivity test was used to examine the effects of serum from different species of African game animals on clones of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (from game and from man) and T. b. brucei. Sera from eland and waterbuck and, to a lesser extent, from hyaena and hippopotamus destroyed the infectivity of both T. brucei and T. rhodesiense during in vitro incubation.
