The effects on crop safety and weed control from applications of the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate pre-harvest of cereals

Agropyron repens is a major weed problem in Scottish cereal crops. Glyphosate-isopropylamine has been used for the control of A. repens in cereal stubbles since 1974. Pre-harvest applications of glyphosate at 0.72 and 1.44 kg/ha have given > 98% control of A. repens on assessment 1 year after treatment. As a result of these treatments 50% lower grain loss at the sieves of combine harvesters has been recorded.
