The efficacy of a caecal anticoccidial vaccine

The efficacy of a caecal anticoccidial vaccine

Diagnostika i profilaktika infektsionnykh i invazionnykh boleznei sel' skokhozyaistvennykh zhivotnykh i ptits: 122-126

A caecal anticoccidial vaccine was used to vaccinate 3 groups of 10-day-old chicks using 3 schedules: 0.5 ml of a solution obtained by dissolving 2 ml CACV in 50 ml of water, injected once into the gizzard; 10 ml of a solution of 1 ml CACV/l water, twice; 10 ml of a solution of 2 ml CACV/l water followed 2 days later by administration of 1% caecal solution instead of water for 3 days. 15 days after vaccination 42 chicks and 14 unvaccinated controls were challenged with 50 000 or 100 000 Eimeria tenella oocysts: no deaths occurred in the vaccinated groups, whereas 10 chicks died in the control group. Similar results were obtained at challenge (with 100 000 oocysts) 38 days after vaccinaton. No pathological changes were observed in vaccinated chicks killed 52 days after vaccination, although a few oocysts were recovered from the caecal mucosa.
