The influence of fertilization on the nutritional value of two hard red spring wheat cultivars

In field trials in 1977-8, 0-280 kg N + 0-280 kg P2O5 + 0-560 kg K2O/ha + trace elements and S was applied to wheat Era and Waldron growing on Heimdal soils. Additions of N up to the top rate, increased grain protein content about 6 and 18% under high and low initial available N conditions, resp.; decreased grain test wt. and P conc.; and increased grain protein, Ca, Zn, Mn and Fe contents. Grain Zn content decreased at higher P rates as did grain protein content in soils high in available N.
