The influence of various meteorological factors on the flight activity of horse-flies (Diptera, Tabanidae)

The influence of various meteorological factors on the flight activity of horse-flies (Diptera, Tabanidae)

Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Entomologie 93(2): 191-207

A study was carried out in the German Federal Republic in 1977--78 to determine the effects of various meteorological factors on the flight activity of Tabanidae, in which 27 meteorological measurements were made every 30 min during the daylight period between June and September. A total of 11 501 tabanids of both sexes was caught using various methods; they belonged to the genera Tabanus, Haematopota, Chrysops, Atylotus, Hybomitra and Heptatoma.
