The reinvasion by Simulium damnosum Theo. s.s. and S. sirbanum Vajime & Dunbar of the south-western part of the area covered by the Onchocerciasis Control Programme in West Africa is reviewed and it is reported that reinvasion also occurred in the eastern parts of the control area, where control measures began in the second half of 1977. Large numbers of flies reappeared along river systems in Togo and Benin in the rainy season of 1978; detailed studies of the reinvasions began in 1979-80.
